Week 9 - Podcasts

Seems to be a great idea, especially for those people who need to catch up on lectures or just stay in touch with what's happening around the place or even things they are interested in. Obviously it's something that libraries will be getting into more and more for their clients.

I have to admit though until now I haven't really heard much about Podcasts and I don't really know if I would use it in the future, but maybe who knows a lot of people seem to like it.

But I have to say aint technology great (if you know how to use it).

Week 8 - Online Video

I liked this part of the course because it was so easy I didn't have to think about it too much, would I use it again, I'm not sure I suppose it depends on if I keep up with the blogging, it is very handy for use in a library environment though. I suppose there’s a lot of people who like to use this for putting videos on Facebook etc. There are some really interesting things that you can find on You Tube, but also some really silly things

I love this video because I have a cat myself and I know how curious she can be, especially when I'm on the computer.

Week 7 - Twitter and Facebook

Twitter
This part of the course is Twitter and Facebook, one I am currently involved with the other I have never been involved with before.

I have never wanted to join Twitter but obviously because we are doing this Web training I did it, who knows I may even like to keep it up (maybe). I’m finding it hard to know what to tweet on twitter, I don’t want to sound mindless, (don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that people who use Twitter are mindless just that I don’t want to seem to be). You have to give things a try at one stage of your life don’t you.

Facebook
I have been on Facebook for quite some time now, I find it's a good way of keeping up with people that I don't normally get to see for a while. I don't normally like to give away too much information though eg. my date of birth is only my date and month, not too many photos posted (only because I find it hard to load them), so I think it's important not to do that.

It's probably great for businesses especially libraries so that the public can keep up with events and goings on.

When going through reading everyone else’s blogs one person commented saying they liked Twitter more than Facebook mainly because of the rubbish that was on there, I am the complete opposite I prefer Facebook to Twitter as I find Twitter to have a lot of nonsense.

Week 6 - Delicious & LibraryThing

Delicious
When I started this part of the course I couldn't understand why they called it Delicious and it had nothing to do with cooking, I still don't know why, but once again I didn't know what I was doing with these ones but we have to give it a go don't we.  Delicious is a good way to store the things that I'm interested in, only thing is I don't think I will use it again. I've noticed that a lot of people on this course enjoy it. I think this is probably one login/username I won’t be using again.

LibraryThing
LibraryThing is probably a good thing to use because it can give me a reference of what I have read, as there are times when I've read something and wanted to read it again and often can't remember the title. It also gives an idea of what other people have read as well. I don't know how many libraries are using LibraryThing but I know our is and I think it's normally what staff have read.

I had quite a lot of trouble trying to put the widget in, quite honestly I don’t know if it was the instructions or just me getting confused (probably the latter).

Week 5 - Wikis

I thought Wiki was going to be another difficult one to do but I was actually surprised how much easier it was.  I think that because you don't know a lot or nothing about this sort of thing it all seems a bit scary, however I haven't had anything to do with Wiki, I never looked at it. Is it an accurate source of information?
Also, reading through some of the blogs I get the feeling that most people have the same thought that some of the information may not be as correct as you would think it should be.

Week 4 - RSS Feeds

This week was all about RSS Feeds. RSS Feeds can be used for storing sites that someone would find interesting, but I found that this would have to be the most confusing one of all (so far), but I'll give it a good try anyway. Yay, have actually done it, thanks to Linda.  It was a bit easier than I thought. It seems to be pretty time consuming though by the time you look through all the things you want to have as the feeds. Maybe I'll keep up with it, I don't really know.

Week 3 - Image Sharing - Punting & Gondola Ride Christchurch

Punting
My husband and I recently went to the South Island of New Zealand, while we were there we decided to go on a tour of the city, one of the things included in this tour was punting down the Avon River, it was a freezing cold morning but when we got there they had lovely fur (fake) blankets to put over us.  It was so beautiful and peaceful. There were lots of ducks swimming as well. I'm amazed they weren't frozen poor little things.

What I liked about it also was the staff dressed in the clothing of yesteryear, you could almost imagine yourself as being in that time.

Gondola
Another part of the tour was a Gondola ride. This takes you 500m above sea level with 360 degree views.  You have the most breathtaking views including Canterbury Plains, Lyttleton Harbour with so many more.  Once you arrive at the top you can go to the Summit Cafe for a cuppa and something to eat and still have the wonderful views.

I think the view of the snow capped mountains in front of us as we were going up was gorgeous, it was a shame that there wasn’t any snow anywhere else.
We also went on the Queenstown Gondola, that one had more trees but still stunning as the ride went further.

Week 2 - Introduction to Blogs - Funny People

Hi There
It amazes me how funny people are when it comes to things like junk pickups or Bring Out Your Dead Days as it's commonly known and what they will do to get something for free.

I was sitting at my laptop on the weekend, staring out the kitchen window when I saw a man and woman get out of their car, they were looking at a couch on the side of the road, the woman was putting the sofa cushions in the back of the car, I noticed that the man had a hand trolley with him and I was thinking what is he going to do with that thing, the lady had driven off and he was still there, all of a sudden he had the couch (looked like a 2and1/2 seater) on the trolley and wheeling it up the street, I was wondering how far he actually had to go to get it home and if he lost it along the way.

I was quite intrigued by this.
